Privacy Policy
Effective September 14, 2026
Overview
406 Founder ("406Founder," "we," "us," or "our") operates 406founder.com (the "Site") and publishes The 406, a free email newsletter. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the Site, you agree to this policy.
Information You Provide
When you subscribe to The 406, we collect your email address and the signup source. If you contact us directly, we collect whatever you include in your message.
Information Collected Automatically
When you visit the Site, we and our service providers may automatically collect:
- Device and browser information, including IP address and device identifiers
- Usage data such as pages viewed, time on page, clicks, and referring URLs
- General location inferred from your IP address
- Information gathered through cookies, pixels, scripts, and similar technologies
When enabled, we use analytics services such as Google Analytics to understand how the Site is used.
Identity Resolution Technology
We use, or may use, identity resolution technology on this Site. These services attempt to match signals from your visit, such as your IP address, device identifiers, cookies, or hashed identifiers, against third-party databases in order to identify or infer information about you, which may include your name, email address, postal address, or demographic and interest data, even if you never fill out a form. We may use this information to understand our audience, to send marketing communications, and to build or refine advertising audiences, and we may share it with service providers who help us do those things.
Depending on where you live, this activity may be considered "sharing" or a "sale" of personal information under applicable privacy laws. You may opt out at any time by emailing matt@406founder.com with the subject line "Privacy Opt-Out."
Artificial Intelligence
We use AI technologies in operating this Site and our business. That includes using AI tools to help create and edit content, analyze data and audience trends, personalize communications, and power features or assistants we may add over time. Information we collect may be processed by third-party AI service providers on our behalf. We seek to limit those providers' use of your personal information to providing services to us.
How We Use Information
- Deliver The 406 and manage your subscription
- Operate, secure, and improve the Site
- Understand our audience and measure what content works
- Send marketing communications and build advertising audiences
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms
How We Share Information
We share information with:
- Service providers that host the Site, store data, deliver email, provide analytics, provide identity resolution services, or provide AI processing
- Legal recipients when required by law, subpoena, or to protect our rights, users, or the public
- Successors in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets
We do not sell your email address to unrelated third parties for their own lists. However, some of the identity resolution and advertising activity described above may count as a "sale" or "share" under certain state laws; see Identity Resolution Technology above for how to opt out.
Cookies and Your Choices
You can control cookies through your browser settings, including blocking or deleting them. You can opt out of Google Analytics with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we treat it as a request to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information collected in that browser. Because there is no consistent industry standard for the older Do Not Track setting, the Site does not otherwise respond to Do Not Track signals.
Email and Unsubscribing
Every issue of The 406 includes an unsubscribe link. You can also email matt@406founder.com and we will remove you. We honor unsubscribe requests promptly.
Data Retention and Security
We keep personal information for as long as needed for the purposes described above, then delete or de-identify it. We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect your information, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
Children's Privacy
The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Your Privacy Rights
Depending on your state or country, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, and to opt out of targeted advertising, sales, or sharing. To exercise any of these rights, email matt@406founder.com. We will not discriminate against you for exercising them.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version here and update the effective date. Material changes may also be announced by email or on the Site.
